Omertà describes a code of absolute silence: members of an organization do not speak to law enforcement about alleged illegal activities involving fellow members.

Under this code, a member may “take the fall” for others—even accepting responsibility for acts committed by someone else—with the expectation that the organization will support them and their family during and after imprisonment.
